Like the headline says - it's what you would get if you took Parks n Rec and made it into a book series about a small town pastor in Michigan. All of the characters have their own quirks, and are written into the fabric of the community in such a loving way that it's fun just to spend time with them. This Pastor Maggie book lays a road map for healthy problem-solving when deep emotions run high. Passages at times are visceral in their realism. I would highly recommend this book, both for its superb entertainment value and also for its positive role-modeling on how to traverse difficult times with caring, grace and hope. Escape to Cherish, Michigan, where Pastor Maggie leads a congregation of diverse (and sometimes quirky) individuals with love, forgiveness, and hope. This book had me at times holding my breath in fear, and then at other times chuckling out loud. And, through it all, learning more about the grace of God, and the whispers of the Holy Spirit.
